Superior Quality Foods
We've actually known and worked for Superior Quality Foods for just over 10 years.
I must admit, we've been hired and fired from this company a few times, but we always get
rehired.
They had purchased a building across the street. This was purchased to allow leaving a remote
warehouse that was about 3 miles away and move those activities to a closer and more controlled area.
The one problem we ran into was that the city wouldn't allow for us to tunnel, or trench across the
street to connect the 2 buildings.
Our plan was to connect the 2 building using externally mounted 802.11g wireless, encrypted bridges.
We had good line of sight, we know we could provide a good price for the equipment, the only other
thing that would have to be done would be the require of the building. This because the old owner, was using
a very old Alpha based accounting system, which used serial lines to terminals, so there were no
existing ethernet lines in place.
We also needed to have wireless access for their handheld product tracking units.
Given the larger size of the new warehouse, we would need additional LMR-400 Coax cable to make
the needed connections. We also noticed that who ever did the old warehouse, had only set 1 antenna
on each Cisco wireless access point, but both would accept and support 2 antenna's. So, we decided
to get our hands on additional antenna's and setup maximum capacity for each unit.
We bid to wire the entire building, as well as the warehouse, top to bottom, including the
externally mounted antenna masts. We also bid on moving and setting up the computer equipment and
wireless equipment as well. But we did loose the Telecomm bid, as did the original Telecomm provider.
The project went pretty uneventfully, other than we couldn't finish the entire job at one setting due
to the fact we had to wait for the larger cooler system to be built and installed, which we would
then drill and install the wireless material tracking system antenna's inside of.
When ever you're doing tall warehouses, you're using a sissor lift.
We were responsible for planning and installing the cable and wireless system, we finished up, then
connected the 2 buildings, which other than the day someone decided to cut the power, has ran flawlessly
since it's startup.
